Dr. Colleen Merrifield received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Waterloo and completed her residency at the University of Ottawa and the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. She has experience providing cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and related therapies (mindfulness, emotion regulation skills, assertiveness training) and has worked in a range of outpatient and inpatient settings. Dr. Merrifield has published scientific papers and book chapters in the areas of anxiety and mood-related difficulties and has presented her work at local, national, and international conferences. She is actively involved in teaching, supervising, and training other professionals in CBT at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and is a part-time clinical professor in the Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences Program at McMaster University. Dr. Merrifield is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
At the Hamilton Centre for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (HCCBT), Dr. Merrifield works with adolescents (ages 13 to 17 years) and adults struggling with a range of anxiety and mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and related difficulties including insomnia, low self-esteem, work and life stress, trauma, and interpersonal/relationship issues. Dr. Merrifield is passionate about combining the most up to date and evidence-based treatments with a gentle and caring approach to meet each client’s unique needs.
