Dr. Karen Zhang is a Registered Psychologist in Ontario with specializations in Clinical, Health and Rehabilitation Psychology for adults. She received her BSc in Psychology from Queen’s University, and obtained her MSc and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Zhang completed her pre-doctoral Psychology Residency at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, specializing in anxiety-related disorders, and adjustments to medical conditions (i.e., transplantation, women’s health, respiratory diseases, chronic pain, palliative care, etc.). Her Post-doctoral Fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute focused on providing psychological services to patients with cardiac conditions and conducting research to advance patient care.
Dr. Zhang offers assessment and treatment services for adults with a range of presenting concerns including mood, anxiety, sleep, work / school / relationship stressors, coping with medical illness, trauma, grief and bereavement, and self-esteem related concerns. Her work is client-centred and grounded in a number of evidence-based approaches including cognitive-behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, emotion-focused therapy and mindfulness meditation.
Dr. Zhang has trained and worked in a number of specialty clinics at three large tertiary hospital networks in Ontario. In addition to her role at HCCBT, she is currently a staff psychologist for the Psychosocial Oncology Program at Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, ON.
